ALDERBURY BOWLS CLUB – Brief History of the Club

Alderbury is a friendly, village, mixed bowling club which promotes the game of lawn bowls at all levels, providing the community with the chance to enjoy the sport and play in competitive and recreational matches.

The club offers membership to young (8 years) or old and is pleased to give new bowlers the chance to try the sport on our club nights, or by appointment. To encourage new players to the game the club offers the first 5 goes free and further coaching by a Bowls England registered Coach.  We pride ourselves on our equal opportunities policy and have facilities for the disabled.

The club is associated to:

  • Bowls England
  • Bowls Wiltshire
  • Salisbury and District League
  • Westbrook Mixed Triples League

Club Night

During the bowling season (April to Mid September) Tuesday is club night, 5.45pm for 6.00pm start.  Anyone, regardless of ability and who is interested in trying the sport, is very welcome.

Help is always on hand and bowls are available. If you wish to try and cannot make Tuesdays, alternative arrangements can be made through the club secretary, Deborah Zieleniewski, email: alderburybowlsclub@gmail.com or the President on 07985 459114.

Skittles

In the closed season (Mid September to March) club night is Tuesdays, when a skittle is played. Again, anyone wishing to come and play is welcome and in this instance should contact the organiser, Colin Webber on 01722 710940 or email: webber996@btinternet.com

Activities

We also hold a variety of other activities during the year, including Quiz Nights, Race Nights – with a supper; coffee mornings and midday lunches.  All of these activities are advertised locally and on this website. These are open events not just for members but for all the local and surrounding village communities. So why don’t you come along and spend a couple of enjoyable hours in pleasant and warm surroundings and have a chat and a laugh and see what else the club has to offer. (History of the Club)

Club Hire

In addition to the above we do hire out the club, a great venue for your event; Weddings, Wakes, Celebrations, Clubs and Societies, Seminars and Exhibitions. Anyone wishing to do so should contact Margaret Webber on 01722 710940, email: mwebber39@icloud.com

The Club has now purchased a Sum-Up card reader for payment of purchases of drinks only made at the bar.

Touring Teams

Alderbury welcomes Touring Teams. Please contact our Fixtures Secretary Alison Cosens on 07788 728873

We are here

The club is situated in the village of Alderbury, 4 miles to the south east of Salisbury, off the A36 Salisbury to Southampton Road. The Alderbury Bowling Club and green is in the heart of the village, behind the village hall. This is ideally situated for visiting teams.

We have a very comfortable club house with a well stocked licensed bar which is open before, during and after the match. Tea and biscuits can also be provided if required. There is parking for both cars and coaches on site.

The village has a public house which serves lunches and evening meals. There are also many suitable places to stay and eat within the local area of Salisbury. If you are looking for places to visit whilst on tour, then a stay over in Salisbury is a must; with visits to our beautiful cathedral and of course a bus tour of the famous Stonehenge.

If you require any further information please contact our Fixtures Secretary Alison Cosens on 07788 728873 or our Club Secretary Deborah Zieleniewski, email: alderburybowlsclub@gmail.com

The Club address is: Rectory Road, Alderbury, SP5 3AD.
